Although most listeners have never read my stories, all my tales begin on the page. Even stories I grew up with and those I heard a million times are subject to the word factory. There is a big difference between writing a story and telling it. By the time I’ve told a tale awhile, felt the audience response, found out what works as an oral art and what doesn’t, my original story morphs into its own form.
But many radio fans have asked for the book. “When are you writing a book?” callers ask. I tell them I write a story every week that you can download, stream or check out the archives. Inevitably the caller will then say “but I want to read it.”
So okay, here comes Auntmama in print. I’ll post new stories at auntmama.com and remind you on pod casts that they are available. If you ever hear a story you want to see in writing, let me know and I’ll try to word smith it for you. That means using those written conventions like grammar, spelling, spacing and making sense out of southern idioms.
Hope you enjoy!
